What is a Massage Therapist?
Massage therapists treat patients through a
variety of bodywork techniques. With an extensive knowledge
of anatomy and physiology, massage therapists are trained
to treat various muscular dysfunctions through manual
techniques.
Recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing,
massage therapy helps improve circulation, decrease
pain, relieve tension and stress, improve biomechanical
function, and speed the body’s natural healing
process.
What to Massage Therapists do?
Massage therapists are trained in specialized
manual techniques such as deep tissue therapy, trigger
point therapy, sports massage, and myofascial release
which they may use exclusively or in combination
to treat a variety of complaints.
Massage therapists use their skills to relieve trigger
point pain, improve biomechanical function, aid in
lymph drainage, heal injured tissues, relax contracted
fascia (the protective covering of muscles), increase
flexibility and range of motion, strengthen the immune
system, and decrease chronic pain.
